SUMMARY:Thematic Member Forum - Health in Kenya
DESCRIPTION:October 13 @ 9:00 am – 11:20 am EAT\n\nHealth is at the heart of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development as well as the government of Kenya’s big 4 agenda. In 2008\, Kenya committed to an ambitious vision: to become a newly industrialized nation by 2030. The country has prioritized reforming its Health sector as key to achieving this goal. With support from various partners\, the government of Kenya is systematically removing the barriers to access to quality health care. From raising standards of services provided through provision of improved infrastructure\, state of the art medical appliances to providing greater access to affordable drugs\, increased Human resources for health and clean and safe sanitation among some of the ongoing interventions. A lot has been done to improve the health sector in Kenya\, but much more still needs to be done over the next decade! The impact of COVID-19 on health has shown the inequalities when it comes to access to quality health care and that\, without proper health systems including quality and dedicated Human resources for Health a crisis can easily erode the gains made in the sector. Health is a major priority focus area for corporate and private giving. The complementary role of the private sector and philanthropy to meet Kenya’s health goals is clearly appreciated. Philanthropy has played a key role in providing health care facilities\, equipment\, Human resources\, medicine and providing Insurance medical cover to their staff hence reducing pressure on the public health care system. Further Philanthropy has run health programs in the community like medical campus\, WASH\, HIV\, TB and Malaria prevention programs. In this virtual forum\, invited experts will share insights on Kenya’s achievement in the health sector and what we are learning from the Covid-19 pandemic. Forum members and guests will engage on key issues in the sector: Which best practices and innovations are emerging in the health sector? How can the CSI sector complement the government’s efforts? What are the opportunities to intervene strategically in the sector\, and create maximum impact rates of return? This kick-off discussion on health will contribute towards informing Impact Philanthropy Africa’s agenda on health. It will also inform how Forum members can collectively engage with the government and other health stakeholders through concrete mechanisms moving forward. \nResources– Full Video Recording– Highlights Video  \n– Remarks By Susan Mochache\, CBS\, Principal Secretary\, Ministry Of Health\, During The Forum On Health On Wednesday\, 13.10.2021 At 9:00am – Health Lessons From Africa By Dr Rispah Walumbe – The CIFF Experience: Philanthropic Perspectives On Health Sector Investments

SUMMARY:Inaugural Virtual Conference: Building Back Better: Growing Philanthropy through Corporate Social Investing (CSI) in Kenya
DESCRIPTION:The crises sparked by the COVID-19 pandemic spurred African philanthropists to give more (seven times the annual average in prior decade)\, and to give through different vehicles. We are shifting into a new era for philanthropy\, and corporate social investment\, in Kenya as well. To fully capitalize on the catalytic impact CSI can create\, we need a supportive regulatory and policy investment. In the inaugural event by Impact Philanthropy Africa\, key thought leaders across policy\, research and funding will share their perspective on the state of the sector\, and emerging opportunities to scale corporate giving. The virtual conference will be a launchpad to co-create the Forum’s advocacy priorities over the next year. \nResources & Handouts \nBRINGING FOUNDATIONS AND GOVERNMENTS: EVIDENCE FROM KENYA\nA Review Of The TAX POLICY ENVIRONMENT FOR PHILANTHROPY IN EAST AFRICA\nCatalyzing Local Philanthropy in Kenya\nTrusts And Foundation Law A New Dawn\nFor Africa By Africa – Harnessing The Power Of African Giving And African-Led Institutions In Championing Africa’s Development Agenda\nPolitical And Economic Situational Analysis Of Kenya’s Philanthropic Landscape\nInaugural Virtual Conference: Building Back Better: Growing Philanthropy Through CSI In Kenya Recording\nPhotos\nImpact Philanthropy Africa Forum Profile\nConference Report
